Dangerous E-shka!

With the expansion of the range of products on the market, it became necessary to carefully study their composition, on which our health depends.

In food labeling, some letters with numbers and words unfamiliar to us have become increasingly common.. These are all nutritional supplements, with the help of which it is possible to preserve the product longer, give it a more attractive appearance, smell, as well as taste.

All over the world, food additives are designated by the In index - from Index, but in Europe it is customary to shorten them to the letter E, what does Examined mean in translation - tested. There is always a numeric code next to the letter E, denoting the belonging of a food additive to a particular group.

So, figures from 100 to 199 talk about, what additive is a colorant (enhances the color or returns the shade lost during the processing of the product); from 200 to 299 - preservative (affects the shelf life of the product); from 300 to 399 – antioxidant (slows down and prevents spoilage of the product); from 400 to 499 – stabilizer (thickener, emulsifier (product consistency); from 500 to 599 – acidity regulator, baking powder, humidity regulator, or substance, anti-caking of the product (works in tandem with a stabilizer, preserves the structure of the product); from 600 to 699 – flavoring (enhancer of taste and aroma); from 700 to 799 - antibiotic; from 800 to 899 - there are no such additives yet (spare range in case new additives appear); from 900 to 999 - sweetener, defoamer; from 1000 to 1999 – glazing agent, separator, gas compressor, sealant, texturizer, salt melter.

certainly, remembering absolutely all food additives is impossible, but you will already be able to recognize the E-shki group. This will help you understand, why is this or that food additive present in this product, and can you use it.

The Grodno Regional Inspectorate of the State Standard during the control and supervisory activities repeatedly identified flour confectionery products containing sodium pyrosulfite, or as it is often referred to as E223, which is an unacceptable food additive for cookies. This additive belongs to preservatives, antioxidants. The use of sodium pyrosulfite in the production of flour confectionery products is a violation of the requirements of the technical regulations of the Customs Union TR CU 021/2011 "On food safety" (points 1 articles 5 chapters 1, points 1, 8 articles 7 chapters 2), TR TS 029/2012 "Safety requirements for food additives, flavors and technological aids " (subparagraphs 1, 3 points 1, points 16 articles 7, applications 8).

When such products are detected, the inspection initiates a ban on their import and circulation into the Republic of Belarus., as well as the termination of the documents on her.

The Gosstandart website maintains a register of hazardous products, which already contains a large number of flour confectionery, including fairly well-known brands, which are prohibited for import and circulation in the Republic of Belarus due to the presence of an unacceptable food additive in the product - E223.

With up-to-date information about hazardous products and terminated documents on confirmation of conformity on the territory of the Republic of Belarus, can be found on the official website of Gosstandart and in the Telegram messenger, where the official channel of the State Standard "Security and Quality" operates (@gosstandartby).
